An essential part of the PFID-FV model involves the programmatic approach to implementing the technical components. Several aspects are considered under cross-cutting considerations:
- Choice of partnerships – Partners in key links throughout the value chain are important to ensure success;
- Staffing and related considerations – Project staff should include a mix of agronomic and social scientists and rely on professionals and technicians with a fieldwork orientation and knowledge of rural and/or indigenous culture and practice to agribusiness development.
- Work planning and timelines – Project components should be phased in as a sequence of related activities based on the beginning and end of the agriculture production cycle of the project location;
- Cultural appropriateness – The design of training approaches and materials should take local culture into consideration to anticipate sources of conflict in managing water and land, purchasing inputs and distributing revenues;
- Sustainability – Both financial and environmental sustainability must be built into the design of the program from its beginning. Specifically, compliance with local government and donor environmental policies should be taken into consideration.
