In order to do this, PFID-FV recruits the best farmers in terms of crop management, minimum plot size for commercial trials and an initial training on the specific market needs. Although the model is criticized for cherry-picking the top farmers, this has been the most effective alternative to build on business opportunities that can later include smaller, more resource constrained farmers.
